Define the conversion
Before creating a landing page, think about the way to convert the visitors and write the text consequently.
Do a researchCreate the profile of your ideal visitor and create an offer aimed at it. Keep the profile in mind whilst you create the landing page, don't create the landing page for someone else.
Remove unnecessary elementsDistraction kills the conversation. Remove from the page all the unnecessary elements. This is not your home page. People coming to the page are visitors who know exactly what they want and expect a specific message.
Remove the navigationIf possible, remove the navigation. Of course don't do it if needed for the conversion.
Remain focalisedDon't think about other areas of your site. The important part of this page is to prevent visitors from navigating your site. We have to obtain the conversion, not stupify the visitors with Flash animations. If they stop thinking about the objective of the conversion, you lost them.
Important elements without scrollingPay attention to the upper part of the screen. Insert important elements there, so the visitors will understand immediately what you are talking about.
Give visitors an easy-to-access buttonPut the button related to the conversion at the top of the page (ie, ADD TO CART, SIGN UP, etc.)
Drive the eyeUse the structure and the colours at your advantage. Use the blank space but don't put too much text and graphics. Don't put importante information in the sidebars.
